The Noun
Meaning - The name of a person, place, thing or idea is called a noun.
Types of Nouns ( ನಾಮಪದದ ವಿಧಗಳು)
In English language the nouns are classified into five groups.
The main 5 kinds of Nouns.
1.Common nouns
2.Proper nouns
3.Collective nouns
4.Material nouns
5.Abstract nouns
1.Common nouns
The nouns which are used to denote the things with common qualities. Such nouns are called common nouns.
Common Nouns are the names of things.
For example :-
Tree,hill,table,chair,home,boy,
girl,book,pen,dog,cat,sparrow,
man,tree,window,door,shirt,
sheep,hair,spoon,rikshaw etc.
2.Proper nouns :-
The specific names of a person and places are called proper nouns.
These nouns are used to identify the things and the persons we use in our daily life.
For example:-
The names of any person :
(Rohini,Rohan,Suresh,Suhani etc.)
The name of any place :
(Benadi,Nippani,Belagavi,
Karnataka,India,etc.)
3.Collective nouns
The nouns which are used to denote the names of the group of common persons, the things or anything else are called collective nouns.
In the short, Collective nouns are the names given to the group of persons,things or anything else.
For example:-
Team, Bunch, Nation, Family, army,chain, century,class, cluster, mob,library etc.
4.Material nouns
The names given to the materials are called material nouns.
For example:-
water, silver, gold, iron, wood,tea,gas,soil,salt etc.
5.Abstract nouns
The names of qualities, state and action are called abstract nouns.
For example:-
Poverty,
bravery,
honesty,
childhood,
judgement
happiness
Sorrow etc.

1.Countable nouns
2.Uncountable nouns
1.Countable Nouns
The nouns which can be counted are called countable nouns.
For example:-
A book, an orange, a house,an ant,an arrow,a flower,a room, a man, a student etc.
2.Uncountable Nouns
The nouns which are cannot be counted are called Uncountable Nouns.
Material Nouns (Water,petrol, steel,milk) and Abstract Nouns (happiness, honesty, happiness, sorrow) are came under this type. We could measure this substances but cannot count them.
For example :
water,milk, poverty, honesty, happiness etc.
These above given nouns are cannot be counted so these are the Uncountable Nouns.
