Tense

A tense is a form of the verb that allows you to express time. The tense of the verb tells us when an event or something existed or when a person did something. 

Three main types of tense.

 1.Present Tense

 2.Past Tense

3. Future Tense

The three tenses are also classified into the four sub types each.

Types of Present Tense

The present tense can be used in four different forms, such as,

1.Simple Present Tense 

This tense is used to indicate the current action or an action that takes place regularly.

Subject + Verb in the base form/third person plural form + O
Ex. - I go to school.

2.Present Continuous Tense – 

This tense used to denote an action that is continuing at the present moment.


Subject + Helping Verb(am/is/are) + Main verb+ing + O

Ex. - I am going to school.

3.Present Perfect Tense– 

The Present Perfect Tense used to indicate an action that is used to denote an action that is indefinite and still has its effect on the subject or object in the sentence.


Structure of Present Perfect Tense

Subject + Helping Verb (have/has) + Past participle of the main verb + the rest of the sentence along with the time frame

 Ex - I have gone to school.

4.Present Perfect Continuous Tense

Present Perfect Continuous Tense – used to represent an action that began in the recent past and is still continuing.


Subject + Have/Has + Been + Verb+ing + O




Ex.  - I havebeen going to school.
